Royal Oak Mayor Jim Ellison Cuts Ribbon At
New Douglas J Aveda Institute Grand Opening Celebration
ROYAL OAK-----Mayor Jim Ellison today cut the ribbon to officially welcome the new Douglas J Aveda Institute, 409 S. Center Street, to Royal Oak. The ribbon cutting was part of a three-hour Grand Opening Celebration. “The city of Royal Oak is proud and happy to have the Douglas J Aveda Institute join our downtown neighborhood,” Ellison said. “The services they provide are outstanding assets to the eclectic mix of what makes Royal Oak unique and desirable.”
Scott Weaver, President and Co-Owner of Douglas J, said the company “takes great pride in opening its fourth Aveda Institute in busy, downtown Royal Oak. The Douglas J Company has always stood for excellence in education, services and products and this Institute will continue that tradition in this vibrant community.” The Institute will offer full and part-time programs in cosmetology and esthiology.
The modern education facility occupies 15,000 square feet of a 38,000-square-foot, two-story building. The first floor is devoted to a service retail area featuring Aveda products. The second level houses 76 styling stations, a color mixing area, and a nail therapy area of seven manicure and eight pedicure stations. It also has a spa with several treatment rooms, including three wet rooms, two body treatment rooms and a Vichy shower. The remainder of the upper level space is dedicated to classroom and office use. “This is a great place to be a student or a guest,” Weaver said.
For more than 20 years, the Douglas J Aveda Institute has been committed to providing a well-rounded education to aspiring professionals in this industry. “Students who receive their education and training at the new Royal Oak Institute will have a solid foundation from which to go on to successful careers,” he said. The Douglas J Aveda Institute is open Monday for retail only from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and for retail and services from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. It is open Tuesday through Friday for retail and services from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., and on Saturday for retail and services from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Guests may choose from services that include hair cuts, styling and color; skin care; nail therapy; and spa packages.
