NEW DOUGLAS J INSTITUTE
LOCATION IN GRAND RAPIDS
GRAND RAPIDS – A new Douglas J Aveda Institute
is opening in Grand Rapids on October 16, 2006
and is currently enrolling students and providing
scholarships. The Institute will teach progressive
cosmetology courses to provide talented people
for the Salon/Spa Industry. The new Institute is
part of re-development in the downtown Grand Rapids
Heartside Community. This is the third Douglas
J Aveda Institute location; the others are located
in Ann Arbor and East Lansing.
Since the beginning, the Douglas J Aveda Institute
has led the way in innovative training for careers
in the industry. For over 20 years, the Douglas
J Aveda Institute has been committed to providing
a well-rounded education to aspiring professionals
entering the Salon/Spa Industry. “As the
spa and salon industry continues to grow, this
new Grand Rapids location will carry forth the
same prestige and educational integrity that is
synonymous with the Douglas J name and reputation,” said
Andrea Liebaert, Marketing Director for Douglas
J.
Although the new Institute is not opening until
October, classes are starting mid-summer. For those
that want to jump-start their education, an evening
class is offered in July and a day class is beginning
in August. These classes will start at the East
Lansing location of the Douglas J Aveda Institute
and transfer to the new Grand Rapids location when
it opens in October. Douglas J is offering a $2,000
transfer scholarship for the evening class as well
as a $1,500 scholarship for the day class.
Douglas J has developed its niche by creating a
learning environment that emulates a true salon
setting. The student body of the East Lansing Institute
services over 300 guests per day, so an education
at Douglas J means hands-on learning and experience.
Students work with the guests as if they were already
professionals in the industry. Douglas J’s
unique learning atmosphere encourages personal
and professional growth, creativity, and a sense
of teamwork, making an education at Douglas J the
foundation for a bright and successful career.
The Douglas J Aveda Institute in Grand Rapids will
be offering the cosmetology program. It requires
students to complete 1,500 hours of demonstrations,
theory and hands-on experience in hair cutting,
coloring, styling, skin care and nail care. The
Institute also provides training in guest care
practices, salon business systems, make-up application,
state regulation, anatomy and physiology, and chemistry.
The cosmetology program takes about 43 weeks to
complete if students are enrolled in the day classes
and about 60 weeks to complete if students are
enrolled in the part-time evening classes. Variable
start dates are available throughout the year.
To apply for admission to the Douglas J Aveda Institute,
students need to complete an admission form, submit
a letter of intent, provide a letter of recommendation,
and a copy of a high school diploma or GED, and
complete an interview with an Admissions Representative.
The new Grand Rapids Douglas J Aveda Institute
is located at 138 Commerce SW, Grand Rapids, MI,
49503. Evening class starts on July 5 and the day
program class starts on August 1. For information
