To do Cutting Demonstration
At Douglas J Aveda Institute in Royal Oak
ROYAL OAK----Internationally-renowned hair stylist Yosh Toya will do a cutting demonstration at the new Douglas J Aveda Institute, 409 S. Center Street, in downtown Royal Oak, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Monday, February 11, TJ Weaver, President and Co-Owner of Douglas J, announced today.
From his modest beginnings and childhood home in Japan, Yosh Toya has established himself as a successful multi-salon owner in the San Francisco area and as a premier educator with more than 45 years of salon work experience. “This is a wonderful opportunity for our Institute students to learn from one of the most talented persons in the cosmetology industry,” Weaver said. “His realistic attitude and concerns with the profession, his amazing energy level, his enthusiasm for both sharing and seeking out the new, and his desire to teach industry professionals how to make hair look beautiful have earned him worldwide recognition.”
He also said that Toya has served on the advisory boards of three community college cosmetology departments, as an ambassador at Haircolor USA, and also has been an active member of InterCoiffure America. In addition, he has won many awards, including the American Salon Magazine “Hairstylist of the Year” Award, the Aveda “Master of the Art” Award, the “Award of Distinction” from Logics University and the “Lifetime Achievement Award” at the North American Hairstyling Awards.
“My approach to hair design allows hairdressers to use their individual talent and creativity to meet the needs of today’s diversified clientele,” Toya said. “The most important thing is to learn how to learn. Technique and precision are a matter of interpretation and there are many ways to approach it.”
