For the Juvenile Diabetes Association
Samantha Weaver Is the Inspiration
Ann Arbor-----The Douglas J Aveda
Institute, Douglas J eXchange and Douglas J Advanced
Academy in Ann Arbor are participating in the company-wide
effort to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes
Research Foundation (JDRF), Scott Weaver, President
and Co-Owner of Douglas J, announced today. Institute,
eXchange and Advanced Academy students and staff
will be selling raffle tickets for $5 each. The
prize is a basket of services and products worth
$1,000. Paper sneakers also will be sold for $1
each as part of the fundraising effort.
Weaver said the goal is to raise $25,000 company-wide
for the JDRF. The Douglas J Company also is sponsoring
the annual “Walk to Cure Diabetes, that will
be held Saturday, August 4, on the campus of Michigan
State University, and a Friday, August 17, golf
outing in Williamston as part of its fundraising
efforts for the JDRF.
“The inspiration behind our company’s
ongoing drive to raise money for the JDRF is my
10-year-old daughter, Samantha, who was diagnosed
with juvenile diabetes when she was a toddler,”
Weaver said. “We also encourage the public
to join us in raising money for this wonderful organization.”
As many as three million Americans have type 1 diabetes,
which results from the body’s failure to produce
insulin. Eighty percent of all the money raised
for the JDRF goes directly to research. The mission
of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is
to find a cure for diabetes and its complications
through the support of research.
The raffle tickets and sneakers also are being
sold in the company’s salons and Aveda Institutes
located in Okemos, East Lansing and Grand Rapids.
