Douglas J Company Sponsors Walk, Golf &
Other Events
To Raise Money for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
Samantha Weaver Is the Inspiration
OKEMOS----The Douglas J Company
is once again going all-out to raise money for the
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) with
its sponsorship of the annual “Walk to Cure
Diabetes” that will be held Saturday, August,
4, on the campus of Michigan State University, Scott
Weaver, President and Co-Owner of Douglas J, announced
today. He said the company will also sponsor its
sixth annual golf outing on Friday, August 17, in
Williamston.
In addition, the company will sell baked goods
and lemonade from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday,
July 12, and Friday, July 13, at the Douglas J Aveda
Institute, 331 East Grand River Avenue, East Lansing,
to raise money for the JDRF. On Wednesday, July
18, Douglas J will partner with Buffalo Wild Wings
Grill & Bar, 360 Albert Avenue, East Lansing,
to raise money for the cause. The restaurant will
donate 20 percent of all purchases that are accompanied
by a Buffalo Wild Wings certificate to the JDRF.
A fund-raising raffle also will be held in the
company’s salons. Raffle tickets can be purchased
for $5 each and the prize is a basket of services
and products worth $1,000. Paper sneakers also will
be sold for $1 each as part of the fundraising effort.
The raffle tickets and sneakers are available at
all Douglas J Salons, and Aveda Institutes in Okemos,
East Lansing, Ann Arbor and Grand Rapids.
Weaver said the goal is to raise $25,000 company-wide
for the JDRF. “The inspiration behind our
company’s ongoing drive to raise money for
the JDRF is my 10-year-old daughter, Samantha, who
was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes when she was
a toddler,” Weaver said. “We also encourage
the public to join us in raising money for this
wonderful organization.” As many as three
million Americans have type 1 diabetes, which results
from the body’s failure to produce insulin.
Eighty percent of all the money raised for the JDRF
goes directly to research. The mission of the Juvenile
Diabetes Research Foundation is to find a cure for
diabetes and its complications through the support
of research.
“We hope for a big turnout on the morning
of the “Walk to Cure Diabetes,” Weaver
said. “This is an easy one-mile walk on the
MSU campus and it’s kid friendly. There will
be face painting, a moonwalk, autographs from the
football team, snacks, t-shirts, a $10 gift certificate
from Douglas J for every walker, as well as complimentary
chair massages from our company.” Registration
for the walk begins at 8:30 a.m. on August 4 and
the walk begins at 9:30 a.m. You also can register
online by going to the JDRF Website at www.jdrg.org.
The golf outing includes 18 holes of golf with
a cart, coffee and donuts in the morning, lunch
at the turn, and dinner. There also will be many
special features and prizes, including Vegas holes,
raffle prizes, a closest-to-pin contest and a longest
drive contest. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and
the shotgun start takes place at 9 a.m.
