Image Customization Attracts
Students & Guests
To Douglas J Advanced Academy
Ann Arbor-----Cosmetologists who
aspire to success in a high-end salon environment
and guests who want a truly personalized image should
know that their expectations will be met at the
Douglas J Advanced Academy in Ann Arbor, TJ Weaver,
Co-Owner and Vice President of Education for the
Douglas J Company, said today.
“Image customization is the foundation of
our curriculum and our approach to guest services,”
Weaver said. “It is the combined use of technical,
creative and guest care expertise to develop a personalized
image for every guest.”
The newly-licensed cosmetology professionals who
enroll in the Advanced Academy program, which takes
place at the Douglas J eXchange Salon, 500 E. Liberty,
Ann Arbor, “are in the equivalent of a master’s
degree program for cosmetologists,” Weaver
said. “They learn to consult with a guest
beyond the desired haircut or color and to also
analyze a guest’s face shape, body type, fashion
preference and lifestyle. The result is that each
guest learns what customized look is just right
for them,” he explained.
Weaver, who is the lead educator at the Advanced
Academy, said the professionals who enroll in the
program must be graduates of Aveda Institute training
programs. “We know those graduates have the
good foundation skills that are necessary to progress
in the Advanced Academy program,” he said.
“The skills they acquire in the advanced program
are designed to ensure their success in a high-end
salon environment,” he added. The Douglas
J Company has Aveda Institutes in Ann Arbor, East
Lansing and Grand Rapids.
Weaver said the image customization curriculum was
inspired by Vivienne Mackinder, a respected international
leader and innovator in hairdressing. Weaver also
has the kind of credentials that will impress both
Advanced Academy students and guests. He has won
many awards for his technical talent; worked with
heavy-hitters like Vidal Sassoon in London and California,
Stephen Way in London and Tony and Guy in London;
and been published in salon trade magazines.
The Advanced Academy program lasts 12 weeks and
the hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The next class begins July 27. Potential students
and guests are invited to call the Advanced Academy
at 877.334.8657, for more information. Additional
