Press Release:

DOUGLAS J ADVANCED ACADEMY
SPECIALIZES IN IMAGE CUSTOMIZATION

ANN ARBOR-----There is much more to a great look than just a great haircut and students at the Douglas J Advanced Academy are experts in the art of “image customization,” TJ Weaver, Co-Owner and Vice President of Education for the Douglas J Company, said today. “Image customization is the foundation of our curriculum. It is the combined use of technical, creative and guest care expertise to develop a personalized image for every guest,” Weaver explained.

The newly-licensed cosmetology professionals who enter the Advanced Academy program, which takes place at the Douglas J eXchange Salon, 500 E. Liberty, Ann Arbor, learn the skill necessary to consult with a guest beyond the desired haircut or color. “They learn to analyze many other important factors, such as those relating to guest’s face shape, body type, fashion preference and lifestyle,” Weaver said. “The result is that each guest learns what unique look is just right for them,” he added.

Weaver, who is the lead educator at the Advanced Academy, said the professionals enrolled in the program must be graduates of Aveda Institute training programs. Douglas J Aveda Institutes are located in Ann Arbor, East Lansing and Grand Rapids. “The Advanced Academy program is the equivalent of a master’s degree program for cosmetologists,” Weaver said. “The skills they learn in this program are designed to ensure success in a high-end salon environment.”

Weaver also said the image customization curriculum was inspired by Vivienne Mackinder, a respected international leader and innovator in hairdressing. Weaver also has the kind of credentials that will impress both Advanced Academy students and guests. He has won many awards for his technical talent; worked with heavy-hitters like Vidal Sassoon in London and California, Stephen Way in London and Tony and Guy in London; and been published in salon trade magazines.

The Advanced Academy program lasts 12 weeks and the hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. The next class begins July 27. For more information about the Advanced Academy, please call 877.334.8657.
