DOUGLAS J
COMPANY EXCEEDS
EARTH MONTH FUNDRAISING GOAL
Funds Benefit Alliance for the Great Lakes
OKEMOS-----The Douglas J Company
raised $21,581 during Earth Month (April) to benefit
the Alliance for the Great Lakes, Scott Weaver,
President and Co-Owner of Douglas J, announced today.
That exceeded the company’s goal of $20,500.
“I am so proud of our employees, our students,
and our guests for embracing this worthy cause and
pitching in wholeheartedly to raise this amount
of money,” Weaver said. He said the fundraising
activities included a 24-hour Cut-A-Thon that was
held April 28-29 at the Douglas J eXchange in Ann
Arbor; and the sale of raffle tickets for a basket
worth more than $1,000 in products and services,
as well as the sale of Earth Month t-shirts.
“We have a tradition of raising money during
Earth Month for an organization that is dedicated
to improving our environment and our world,”
Weaver said. “Our guests and our employees
and students always have a great time participating
in this because they know that the funds raised
are going to a very worthwhile cause.”
The Alliance for the Great Lakes works to conserve
and restore the world’s largest freshwater
resource through policy, education and local efforts
aimed at preserving the Great Lakes region as a
national treasure. It also works with the region’s
residents, enhancing their understanding of how
they too can help.
Other Douglas J salons and cosmetology schools
that participated in the month-long fundraising
included the Douglas J Day Spa Salon in Okemos,
Douglas J Aveda Institute and Douglas J eXchange
in East Lansing, Douglas J Advanced Academy, eXchange
and Douglas J Aveda Institute in Ann Arbor, and
Douglas J Aveda Institute in Grand Rapids.
“Douglas J is a very environmentally aware
and responsible company,” Weaver said. “We’re
already planning for next year’s Earth Month
fundraising activities.”
