Douglas J eXchange Holds 24-Hour Cut-a-Thon
To Raise Funds for the Alliance for the Great Lakes
Goal Is to Raise $5,000 at Cut-a-Thon and $20,500 Total during Earth Month

Ann Arbor-----The Douglas J eXchange in Ann Arbor will hold a 24-hour Cut-a-Thon beginning Saturday, April 28, at 6 p.m. and running through Sunday, April 29, until 6 p.m. to raise money for the Alliance for the Great Lakes, Scott Weaver, President and Co-Owner of the Douglas J companies, announced today. Haircuts will be available for $20 and a relaxing chair massage can be enjoyed for $1 per minute. The eXchange is located at 500 East Liberty in Ann Arbor.

“This is part of our annual Earth Month activities to raise money for an organization that is dedicated to improving our environment and our world,” Weaver said. “Our guests and our employees always have a great time participating in this because they know that the funds raised are going to a very worthwhile cause. Our goal is to raise $20,500 company-wide for the Alliance for the Great Lakes and we hope to raise $5,000 of that total during the Cut-a-Thon,” he added.

The Alliance for the Great Lakes works to conserve and restore the world’s largest freshwater resource through policy, education and local efforts aimed at preserving the Great Lakes region as a national treasure. It also works with the region’s residents, enhancing their understanding of how they too can help.

In addition to the Cut-a-Thon, Douglas J is raising money for the Alliance for the Great Lakes by raffling off a basket worth over $1,000 in products and services. Tickets are $3 each or 5 for $10 and they are available from any Douglas J employee or student or online at www.douglasj.com. Weaver said they also are selling Earth Month tee shirts in their retail area.

Reservations for the Cut-a-Thon can be made by calling 877.334.8657 or by stopping by the eXchange. Douglas J will also be able to accommodate walk-in guests throughout the event.

Weaver said Douglas J held its first annual Cut-a-Thon in 2006 and raised over $3,000 for the National Wildlife Federation Great Lakes Natural Resource Center. It also raised more than $10,000 last year for United Plant Savers. The mission of United Plant Savers is to protect native medicinal plants of the United States and Canada and their native habitat while ensuring an abundant renewable supply of medicinal plants for generations to come.

“Douglas J has always been a very environmentally aware and responsible company,” Weaver said, “and thanks to the support of our guests we have been able to raise a significant amount of money to help organizations that focus on protecting the world in which we live.”
