BUY LEMONADE FROM SAMANTHA &
HELP THE JUVENILE DIABETES RESEARCH FOUNDATION Also
Join Saturday’s “Walk to Cure Diabetes”
on the MSU Campus
OKEMOS-----There are two great ways this weekend
that you can help the effort to find a cure for
diabetes—buy lemonade from 9-year-old Samantha
Weaver at the Douglas J Day Spa Salon drive-thru,
4663 Ardmore Drive in Okemos, from 11 a.m. to 3
p.m. on Friday, August 4; and join the Juvenile
Diabetes Research Foundation International’s
“Walk to Cure Diabetes” on the Michigan
State University campus on Saturday, August 5.
Samantha
Weaver is the daughter of Scott and Melanie Weaver,
and the granddaughter of Douglas J. Weaver, the
founder of the Douglas J Salon. Scott is the co-owner
and president of Douglas J. Samantha was diagnosed
with juvenile diabetes at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing
when she was 18-months-old. “We’re doing
everything we can to help find a cure for diabetes
and Samantha wants to help too,” Weaver said.
“That’s why she and her grandmother
Sharon will be selling lemonade for $1 at our drive-thru.
I know it will make them very happy to sell a lot
of lemonade so please come by and put a smile on
Samantha’s face.” All proceeds will
be donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
International.
Douglas
J is the main sponsor of the 2006 “Walk to
Cure Diabetes” on the MSU campus. Participants
will have the opportunity to meet MSU Head Football
Coach John L. Smith, who is the honorary walk chairman.
Registration for the 1.5 mile walk begins at 8:30
a.m. and the walk starts at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at
the Duffy Daugherty Football Building at the southeast
corner of Shaw Lane and Chestnut Street. Parking
will be available in Lot 79, next to Spartan Stadium.
Walkers will be treated to food, entertainment and
special attractions and they are encouraged to bring
the whole family.
“This
is such a great cause and every dollar raised brings
us that much closer to finding a cure for diabetes,”
Weaver said. “I hope to see lots of people
buying lemonade from Samantha on Friday and lots
of walkers on campus on Saturday.”
