Located in Okemos, a family-oriented suburb of Lansing, the Douglas J Salon and Day Spa is our flagship salon. Originally opened in 1967 in East Lansing, in the basement of what is now Pinball Pete’s arcade, Douglas Weaver’s first salon opened with four stylists, a nail technician, and a receptionist. Weaver’s goal was to have an aesthetically beautiful, highly professional and “very well-run beauty salon” which would teach young people how to service the public. “Every year,” Weaver says, “there was a new set of goals, there was a new vision. There was another opportunity that I saw to help more young people.” In 1970, the salon moved from East Lansing to its current location in Okemos with eight employees, and was known as The Village Hair Shoppe. Soon, Weaver’s creative vision and continual drive to generate opportunity resulted in so much growth that the salon’s eighteen stylists were booked solid, and the salon was completely remodeled to its current structure to accommodate the expanding business.
Today, the Douglas J Salon and Day Spa is home to over a hundred employees, and continues Douglas Weaver’s tradition of vision and creativity while providing a personalized and cutting-edge Aveda experience.
