Since its conception in 1986, the Douglas J Aveda Institute has led the way in innovative training for careers in the Salon/Spa industry. Douglas J has developed its niche by creating a learning environment that emulates a true salon setting. The student body services over 100 guests per day, so an education at Douglas J means hands-on learning. You will actually work with the guests as if you were already a professional in the Salon/Spa Industry. The Douglas J Aveda Institute Grand Rapids offers full and part-time programs in Cosmetology.

The Douglas J Aveda institute is located in the historic Heartside Business District, near the heart of downtown Grand Rapids. The newly renovated 14,000 square foot building has an expansive retail area exclusively featuring Aveda products and sensory experiences, 64 styling stations, a color mixing area, a nail therapy area with 5 manicure and 4 pedicure stations, and a spa inclusive of 4 treatment rooms. The remainder of the space is dedicated to classroom and office use.

Douglas J Suites is a private floor exclusively for Douglas J students. It is located inside the new Loose Leaf Lofts Complex located at 333 Commerce Avenue, two blocks and well within walking distance of the Douglas J Aveda Institute in Grand Rapids.
