More than 45 years later, Douglas J Institutes and Salons have become staples in communities throughout southern Michigan, Illinois and Tennessee. 1967 – Douglas and his wife, Sharon, open first salon in East Lansing, MI
1970 – Salon moves to nearby Okemos, MI
1986 -- Douglas J Academy of Cosmetology opens in Lansing, MI area
1993 – Scott and TJ, Douglas and Sharon’s two sons, transform academy into Douglas J Aveda Institute - East Lansing, the 7th Aveda institute in North America
2002 – Douglas J eXchange (now known as Douglas J Salon - East Lansing) opens in East Lansing
2004 – Douglas J Aveda Institute - Ann Arbor opens in Ann Arbor, MI, soon followed by second Douglas J eXchange (now known as Douglas J Salon - Ann Arbor)
2007 – Douglas J Aveda Institute - Grand Rapids opens in Grand Rapids, MI
2008 – Douglas J Aveda Institute - Royal Oak opens in Royal Oak, MI
2010 – Aveda Institute - Chicago becomes a Douglas J Aveda Institute
2011 – Douglas J Aveda Institute - Knoxville opens in Knoxville, TN
